A sexual harassment case has been filed against journalist Golam Rabbani in Rajshahi. The case was filed on March 3 at Chandrima Police Station by a former female colleague who had worked with him at the Sky Bangla Net online portal. Rabbani previously served as the managing director of the portal and also worked as a media adviser and part-time teacher at the Department of Journalism, Communication and Media Studies at Barendra University.
According to the case statement, the complainant said that on July 4, 2025, Rabbani called her to the Sky Bangla Net office in the Padma residential area under Chandrima Police Station. She alleged that when she entered his office room around 12:30 PM, Rabbani touched her body and attempted to rape her. The complainant said she resisted, left the room, and later resigned from her position at the organization.
The woman stated that she later joined Barendra University as a counselor in the Public Relations and Media Department, where Rabbani also worked as an adviser and part-time teacher. She said she reported the incident to the university’s vice-chancellor and informed colleagues but subsequently faced threats and harassment.
The complainant alleges that police have not taken sufficient action to arrest the accused since the case was filed. Police officials said the case has been recorded and efforts are ongoing to locate the accused, who they claim is currently not in Rajshahi. Attempts to contact Rabbani for comment were unsuccessful as his phone was found switched off.
