A man accused of operating a rape, blackmail, and pornography ring under the guise of a non-governmental organization (NGO) has been arrested in Habiganj. The accused, Nurul Islam alias Nurul Haque, was detained on Sunday evening during a raid conducted by an operation team from RAB-9’s Shayestaganj camp in the Chunarughat area.
The arrest follows a case filed by a young woman with Bahubal Police Station under the Pornography Control Act 2012 and the Prevention of Oppression of Women and Children Act. According to the complaint, the survivor had joined Nurul Haque’s organization, known as the Poor Welfare Organization, as an office assistant about a year ago. She alleged that Nurul Haque first raped her inside his office in Mahasoyer Bazar on 28 February 2025 and secretly recorded the assault. The complaint states that he later held her under threats of releasing the video online and repeatedly assaulted her over several months.
The survivor further alleged that she was drugged and handed over to associates and expatriates connected to the accused. After she recently left her job, the recorded videos were reportedly circulated among acquaintances abroad and later spread on social media, prompting her to file the case.
Police say the case also mentions similar allegations involving other female employees of the organization. Authorities report that at least two additional women from Chunarughat and Bahubal have described comparable experiences of assault and harassment.
RAB-9 officials said Nurul Haque had been operating the alleged network for a long time by targeting vulnerable women through the organization. Bahubal Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Saiful Islam said the accused had been on the run before being detained with assistance from RAB and will be produced before court as the investigation continues.
