A 10-year-old student of a Qawmi madrasa in Bheramara, Kushtia, has been hospitalized in critical condition after allegedly being subjected to sexual and physical abuse. The child is receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital. Preliminary gynecological examinations revealed signs of abuse, and the child’s hymen has been ruptured.

The child’s mother had enrolled her daughter in the madrasa about seven months ago. She received reports of abuse at the institution shortly after, but the director’s wife reassured her that the girl would be safe. The mother last spoke with her daughter on March 13, and when she went to bring her home on March 15, she found her in a critical state.

The madrasa director, Saidul Islam, has been arrested and sent to prison after a court appearance. The child’s mother has filed a written complaint at the Bheramara Police Station, and legal action has been initiated. Additional Superintendent of Police Delwar Hossain confirmed the matter.

The hospital spokesperson, Shankar K. Biswas, stated that the child is in severe psychological distress and is not speaking voluntarily. Forensic analysis will determine whether the child has been a victim of rape.
