A 24-year-old housewife was found dead in her home in Sonargaon, Narayanganj, with allegations that she was killed following ongoing dowry-related abuse. The body was recovered on Sunday morning from Satbhaiyapara village under Baidyer Bazar Union. Police have launched an investigation, while the husband named in the complaint remains absconding.

The deceased, Anika Khatun alias Farhana, was the wife of Md. Sagar, a resident of the same village. She was the daughter of Kala Chan from Nalchati village in Meghna Upazila, Comilla. A written complaint was filed by her father at Sonargaon Police Station, naming three individuals—including her husband—as suspects in the incident.

According to the complaint and family accounts, Anika had been subjected to prolonged dowry-related violence since her marriage approximately nine years ago. Her husband had reportedly demanded 400,000 Taka to finance travel abroad and physically abused her when the demand was not met. Although the money was later arranged and Sagar traveled abroad, he returned to Bangladesh within a few months. The couple had two children.

Family members stated that Sagar later demanded an additional 200,000 Taka, leading to renewed conflict in recent days. On Saturday night, an altercation reportedly took place between the couple. The following morning, Anika’s family was informed that she was unwell. When they arrived at the residence around noon, they found her lifeless body lying on the floor. Police later recovered the body from the scene.

Md. Mohibullah, Officer-in-Charge of Sonargaon Police Station, said the body has been sent to Narayanganj Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy, and the cause of death will be confirmed following the report. Police confirmed that the incident is under investigation and efforts are ongoing to locate the accused.
