The Election Commission (EC) has announced the schedule for the election of reserved women’s seats in the 13th National Parliament, with voting set to take place on May 12. The announcement was made on Wednesday during a briefing at the Election Building in Agargaon by EC Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed.
According to the schedule, the deadline for submission of nomination papers is April 21, with scrutiny to be conducted on April 22 and 23. Appeals may be filed on April 26 and will be resolved between April 27 and 28. The deadline for withdrawal of candidature is April 29, and election symbols will be allocated on April 30.
Officials stated that Moinuddin Khan will serve as the Returning Officer, while Monir Hossain will act as Assistant Returning Officer. Four polling agents will be deployed to oversee the election process.
The EC also outlined the allocation of the 50 reserved seats, with 36 seats designated for the BNP and its alliance, 13 for Jamaat-e-Islami and its alliance, and one seat reserved for independent candidates. Islami Andolan Bangladesh is not part of any alliance, and independent MP Rumin Farhana is also not aligned with any bloc.
In the same briefing, the EC confirmed that voting for the Sherpur-3 general election and the Bogura-6 by-election will be held on Thursday, with preparations reported to be satisfactory.
