On April 18, 2026, an 11-year-old Qawmi Madrasa student in Madan Upazila, Netrakona, was found to be about seven months pregnant during a hospital visit. Dr. Saima Akter, who examined her, learned the child’s madrasa teacher was implicated and shared the case on Facebook. The post went viral. The accused teacher took leave and went into hiding.
Since the post, Dr. Saima has faced organized cyberbullying. Posts called her a “content creator” chasing views and accused her of fabricating claims against a religious scholar. AI-generated videos falsely showed her confessing to inventing the incident. Her husband said she has had a mental breakdown, disabled her Facebook account, and filed a General Diary with police over threats.
From May 5, Facebook claims said a DNA test cleared the teacher and named the child’s maternal grandfather. Madan Police Station OC Md. Tariqul Islam told Rumor Scanner no DNA test had been conducted. RAB confirmed at a May 6 press conference that the DNA report was a rumor and unscientific, as the accused, Aman Ullah Sagar, had not yet been detained.
The mother’s First Information Report accuses the madrasa teacher. It alleges that on November 2 last year, after the madrasa closed, he asked the girl to sweep the mosque, then lured her into a room, raped her, and threatened to kill her family if she told anyone. It states he raped her again days later. The mother said the teacher’s elder brother offered money to settle, but the family filed a case against both men.
The report notes women often face cyberbullying when raising social issues, with personal attacks and misinformation used to intimidate and silence them.
