In Gopalpur upazila of Tangail, government primary school teacher Md. Rezaul Hannan has been temporarily suspended after a case was filed against him under the Prevention of Oppression Against Women and Children Act. He had been serving as Acting Headmaster of Choto Shakhariya Government Primary School.

According to the District Primary Education Office, the teacher was arrested on May 3 following the filing of the case and was later sent to jail through the court. The suspension order was issued under provisions of the Bangladesh Service Rules governing government employees detained in criminal cases.

The allegations against the teacher emerged after claims that he lured a female student into a secluded room and attempted to sexually assault her. Following the student’s account, tensions spread in the area, and local residents gathered at the school to protest the incident.

On May 6, residents organized a human chain on the school premises demanding punishment for the accused teacher. Authorities stated that during the suspension period, he will receive only a subsistence allowance in accordance with government regulations.

The accused teacher has denied the allegations and claimed that he was framed through a planned conspiracy. Police and education authorities stated that legal and administrative proceedings are ongoing.
