Jahangirnagar University has announced the recruitment of female security guards for the first time in the university’s history amid ongoing discussions regarding campus safety and violence against women students.

According to a recruitment notice issued by the university administration on May 22, the university plans to recruit 15 new security guards, including five women and ten men. The administration stated that the initiative was introduced following student demands for stronger security measures and greater protection for women on campus.

The move comes after widespread criticism of the university’s security system following a recent attempted rape case involving a student. Students protesting the incident had demanded structural reforms, including the appointment of female security personnel across the campus.

The recruitment notice states that applicants must be between 18 and 30 years old and have at least an eighth-grade education. Candidates with SSC or HSC qualifications and Ansar training will receive preference during the hiring process.

University officials stated that the introduction of female security guards is intended to strengthen campus security infrastructure and address concerns raised by students. The administration also indicated that the number of female guards could be increased further in the future if necessary.
