A nine-year-old child was hospitalized in Khulna after allegedly being severely beaten by a teacher at a residential madrasa. Family members say the child sustained serious head injuries and remains traumatized, reportedly shaking in fear even while asleep.
According to the family, the incident took place on the night of June 17 at Nurul Quran Tahfiz Academy in the Daktarpara area under Sonadanga Police Station. The child, the only son of his parents, had been enrolled at the madrasa to memorize the Quran and was residing there as a boarding student.
The child’s father, Omar Faruk Shikder, said he was informed about the incident nearly 24 hours later and subsequently took his son for medical treatment. Medical examinations reportedly found a blood clot in the child’s brain and injuries affecting blood vessels in his head. Family members stated that blood clots formed beneath his eyes and that surgery may be required if his condition does not improve through treatment.
According to another teacher at the madrasa, the accused teacher, Hafez Abdur Rahman, allegedly beat the child with a cane after he was unable to recite lessons correctly. The teacher further stated that the child struck his head against a wall during the assault. Following the incident, visible swelling and bruising reportedly appeared around the child’s eyes, head, face, and neck. Abdur Rahman has reportedly left the area and could not be reached for comment.
Police said they visited the madrasa after learning of the incident and urged the family to file a complaint. However, the child’s father stated that his immediate priority is his son’s recovery. As of June 21, no formal case had been filed. Police indicated that legal action could be taken if the family submits a complaint.
