Police have collected DNA and viscera samples as part of the investigation into the death of physician Dr. Farah Ferdous, whose body was recovered from her residence in Dhaka on June 26. An unnatural death case has been filed at Shahbagh Police Station, and forensic examinations are underway to determine the cause of death.

Dr. Farah Ferdous (32) was a member of the 39th Bangladesh Civil Service (Health) cadre and a third-year resident in cardiovascular surgery at Bangladesh Medical University (BMU). According to police, she lived alone in a flat above Aziz Super Market in Shahbagh. Family members reported that she was last in contact with her younger sister on June 24.

Police recovered her decomposed body after neighbors reported a strong odor coming from her apartment. Officers broke open the locked room and found her unconscious before transferring her to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where she was declared dead. Investigators stated that no visible external injuries were found on the body during the initial examination.

According to morgue officials, DNA samples have been sent to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), while viscera samples have been forwarded to the government chemical laboratory for forensic analysis. Police stated that the final cause of death will depend on the findings of the post-mortem examination and laboratory reports.

On June 27, Dr. Farah’s younger sister, Nuzhula Ferdous, filed an unnatural death case with Shahbagh Police Station. Police said the investigation remains ongoing, and further findings will depend on the results of the forensic examinations.
