A woman was rescued by police in Kotalipara, Gopalganj, after allegedly being abducted, confined in a house and raped over eight days. She filed a case on Sunday under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act, naming 31-year-old Nazmul Hawlader as the accused.
The woman was travelling from her husband’s home in Baraibhita village to her father’s home in Dharabashail village on 22 August. According to the case, when she reached Dharabashail Bazar, Nazmul and several associates abducted her and took her to a house near the market.
She alleged that she was kept confined in the house for the following eight days and repeatedly raped. Police learned of the incident and rescued her from the house on Saturday evening. She was later admitted to Gopalganj Sadar Hospital for a medical examination.
Kotalipara Police Station Officer-in-Charge Riad Mahmud confirmed that the woman had filed the case and said police were working to arrest Nazmul. No arrest had been reported at the time of publication.
