A seven-year-old child was allegedly repeatedly raped and sexually abused by students and teachers at a madrasa in Savar between February and July 2026. On August 23, the child’s father filed a petition with Judge Masrur Salekin of Dhaka’s Tribunal for the Prevention of Violence Against Children, naming 10 accused, including madrasa director Zia Ibn Qasim. The tribunal ordered Savar Model Police Station to register an FIR.

According to the case, the child was admitted in early February and was first allegedly raped by a 20-year-old student in a restroom on February 21. The abuse allegedly continued until July 6. The complaint states that after other students learned of the assault, several also abused the child. When the child sought help from teachers, some allegedly subjected the child to further sexual abuse and threats. The child disclosed the incidents to their mother on August 12 and was later treated at Dhaka Medical College Hospital. The father said the child is experiencing severe psychological distress and physical complications.

The accused include director Zia Ibn Qasim; Maktab head Qari Rafiqul Islam, 56; assistant teacher Hafez Maulana Jaber Hossain, 29; Hafez Sabbir, 27; Hafez Kamruzzaman, 28; and five students. The father additionally alleged that three other boys abused the child. The complaint describes the accused as an “organised ring” and alleges other students may also have been subjected to abuse.

Zia denied wrongdoing and called for a fair investigation, while describing some alleged conduct as something “young children” do among themselves. Madrasa representatives also demanded that the perpetrators be identified. The father alleged that after he complained to Zia on August 15, the director discouraged him from independently contacting police or journalists.

Police submitted the FIR to court on August 27. Senior Judicial Magistrate Tanvir Ahmed ordered an investigation report by October 13, while the child gave a statement before Senior Judicial Magistrate Afroza Sultana Sweety. Investigating officer SI Samrul Hossain said police had conducted operations to apprehend the accused, but made no arrests.
