An 8-year-old girl who was found with her trachea cut in Sitakunda, Chittagong, Bangladesh, has died while undergoing treatment at Chittagong Medical College Hospital. The girl was rescued from a remote hilly area on Sunday morning, where she had been subjected to a violent assault, including rape, and her throat was slit with a knife.
The child’s uncle stated that despite medical efforts, she succumbed to her injuries at around 3:30 am on Monday. The family is devastated, with the parents repeatedly fainting upon hearing the news of her death. The girl’s body is currently at the Chittagong Medical College morgue, awaiting autopsy and burial.
The incident occurred near the Sahasradhara waterfall inside the Botanical Garden and Ecopark in Sitakunda, where workers engaged in road repair rescued the child. She was initially taken to Sitakunda Upazila Health Complex and later transferred to Chittagong Medical College Hospital for surgery.
The child’s mother has filed a case of kidnapping and attempted murder against an unidentified accused, which will now be converted into a murder case. Police are investigating the incident, and an autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
The local community is in shock, and authorities are working to bring the perpetrator to justice.
