Students of the Anthropology Department at Jahangirnagar University have submitted a memorandum to the Vice-Chancellor demanding action against individuals accused of cyberbullying and defamation targeting a woman faculty member.

The allegations center on Assistant Professor Rezwana Karim Snigdha, with students claiming that two members of JACSU and a leader of Chhatra Shakti circulated distorted and defamatory content about her on social media. The memorandum names Ahsan Labib, Mohammad Ali Chishti, and Abu Touhid Mohammad Siam, and calls for their removal from organizational positions.

According to the memorandum, since March 11, edited clips and selective excerpts of Snigdha’s remarks from a televised discussion have been shared online in ways that allegedly incited harassment, including cyberbullying and gendered attacks. The students also alleged that false and misleading information was disseminated across multiple platforms using the university’s name.

The students’ demands include public retraction of the circulated content, an unconditional apology, formal investigation, disciplinary action under university regulations, and clarification of JACSU’s institutional position on such conduct. They also called for accountability of online platforms using the university’s name to spread harmful content.

In response, Ahsan Labib denied the allegations, stating that his actions constituted legitimate political criticism rather than harassment. University representatives indicated that statements made outside official channels reflect personal views, while faculty member Rezwana Karim Snigdha described the incident as indicative of broader concerns regarding harassment and institutional accountability within academic spaces.
