A woman in Faridpur has filed a case alleging that she was raped after being lured with the promise of receiving a “Family Card” and a widow’s allowance card. The case was filed on Wednesday under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.
According to police, the survivor, a 45-year-old woman from the municipal area, had been living on her own income after her husband’s death a decade ago. She reported that the accused, Sujon Sheikh (35), approached her with assurances of facilitating access to government welfare benefits, which led her to trust him.
The case statement alleges that on April 2, the accused took her from her home under the pretext of visiting the Upazila Parishad office. Instead, she was taken to a residential hotel in Faridpur town, where she was subjected to sexual violence. Following the incident, she received medical treatment for four days at the One-Stop Crisis Center of Faridpur Medical College Hospital.
The survivor returned home on April 6 and later filed a written complaint at the police station. Police stated that the case was recorded after preliminary verification and that efforts are underway to locate and arrest the accused.
The accused has denied the allegations, claiming the case is part of a conspiracy. Police also stated that attempts are being made to identify the specific hotel location with the assistance of technology after the survivor was unable to clearly identify it.
