A Bangladeshi migrant woman worker, Dipali Begum (34), has been killed in an Israeli attack in Lebanon. According to officials and family members, she died on Wednesday during an airstrike in Beirut. Her death marks the first reported killing of a Bangladeshi national in Lebanon in the current phase of the Middle East conflict.
Dipali Begum was from Char Bhadrasan Upazila in Faridpur and had gone to Lebanon two years ago to support her family financially. Embassy sources said the Israeli strike hit the residence of her employer in Beirut’s Hamra area, causing the building to collapse. Seven people, including Dipali, her employer, and members of the employer’s family, were killed in the attack.
Family members said Dipali had recently moved to Beirut from the Tyre area because of escalating violence there. Her sister said they last spoke on Wednesday morning, when Dipali mentioned that the intensity of the conflict in Tyre had forced them to relocate. The family later received news of her death through a local remittance contact.
The Bangladesh Embassy in Beirut confirmed that Dipali’s body is being kept at Rafic Hariri Hospital morgue and said efforts are underway to repatriate her remains. Local administration officials in Faridpur also said the repatriation process has begun through diplomatic channels.
According to migration researchers, around 150,000 Bangladeshi migrant workers are currently in Lebanon, and more than half are women. Dipali’s death is reported as the eighth Bangladeshi death linked to the ongoing regional conflict involving Israel, Iran, and the United States.
