A teenage girl was found dead in Gazipur’s Sreepur Upazila after her husband allegedly strangled her and fled, reportedly informing neighbors before escaping. Police recovered the body of Jhorna Akter (16) on Saturday night from a rented residence in the Janglapara area of Beraiderchala village.

According to police and local sources, Jhorna had married Md. Apu, a minibus driver, around two years ago. The couple had been living as tenants in a multi-story house in the area. Her body was found inside a locked room on the second floor of the building.

Witnesses stated that earlier in the evening, Apu called another tenant, Tania, and said that he had killed his wife, asking that someone recover the body. Following this call, neighbors alerted police, who arrived at the scene and broke open the locked room to recover the body.

Jhorna’s father, Hamidul Islam, said the couple had married on their own and that his daughter had been out of contact with her family since then. He alleged that Apu was responsible for the killing and demanded justice.

Police prepared an inquest report and sent the body to Gazipur Shahid Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital for autopsy. The accused remains absconding, and police said efforts are underway to locate and arrest him.
