Two members of the Hijra community were injured in a clash at Gangni Bazar in Meherpur, reportedly linked to internal disputes over community norms and leadership. The incident occurred around 2:00 PM on April 9 near the local fish market area.

The injured individuals, Jhumka (26), also known as Chandni, and Nodi (26), were rescued by locals and taken to Gangni Upazila Health Complex for treatment. Both are from nearby districts, according to local sources.

Community members stated that tensions had been ongoing over allegations that Jhumka, despite reportedly entering into a marriage and living a domestic life, continued to collect money from villages while identifying as part of the Hijra community. The issue had previously been raised with community leadership.

Nupur Khatun, identified as a guruma (community leader), had submitted a written complaint to Gangni Police Station prior to the incident. A meeting between the parties had been held but did not resolve the dispute, and a follow-up meeting scheduled earlier this week reportedly did not take place.

According to accounts, the altercation escalated into physical violence, during which Jhumka was assaulted. Nodi was also injured while attempting to intervene. The specific individuals responsible for the attack have not been confirmed.

Police stated that they responded after receiving reports of the incident and that further action will depend on formal complaints and investigation.
