A murder case has been filed in connection with the killing of Pir Shamim Reza in Kushtia’s Daulatpur Upazila, naming four individuals and accusing more than 200 unidentified people. The complaint alleges that the attack on the shrine was carried out by a large mob. The case was filed on Monday night by the victim’s elder brother, Fazlur Rahman, at Daulatpur Police Station. It includes charges of assault, vandalism, arson, and looting during the attack on the shrine in Philipnagar village.

The named accused are Muhammad Khaja Ahmed, a local Jamaat-e-Islami member; Rajib Mistri, identified as a Jamaat activist; Md. Asaduzzaman, Upazila President of Khelafat Majlish; and Md. Shihab, a madrasa teacher. Police said the remaining accused are yet to be identified.

According to the complaint, more than 200 people, allegedly led by members associated with Jamaat-e-Islami and Khelafat Majlish, attacked the shrine following the circulation of an earlier video linked to allegations of religious defamation. During the attack, Shamim Reza was beaten and hacked to death, and at least three others, Mohan Ali, Jamirun, and Zubayer, were seriously injured.

Police stated that no arrests have been made so far, but operations are ongoing. Authorities said CCTV footage and viral videos are being analyzed, and individuals involved in the attack have been identified. Law enforcement remains deployed in the area.

Meanwhile, the Daulatpur Upazila unit of Jamaat-e-Islami held a press conference protesting the inclusion of its leaders in the case, calling the allegations “false” and “fabricated,” and demanding an impartial investigation. Tension has persisted in the area since the incident, with heightened security in place following the killing.
