Mazar Caretaker Killed in Sylhet; Friend Detained Over Axe Attack

A mazaar caretaker was killed in Sylhet’s Bishwanath Upazila after being attacked with an axe, and a friend has been detained in connection with the incident. The killing took place on April 15 in the Ramapasha Union area.

The deceased, Shah Alam (28), was the son of Sifat Ali from Pratapur village and served as a khadem at the Pratapur Hanif Shah Mazaar. Police detained Mizanur Rahman (32), son of Bashir Uddin of West Dhalipara village, shortly after the incident.

According to police, Shah Alam and Mizanur had known each other for a long time. On the afternoon of the incident, an altercation broke out between them at the grounds of Al-Azam High School. During the conflict, Mizanur allegedly brought an axe from his home and attacked Shah Alam, causing fatal injuries.

Local residents took Shah Alam to a hospital, where he was declared dead. Police later recovered the body and sent it to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital for autopsy. Police stated that Mizanur was detained from his home following the incident. A case is being prepared in connection with the killing.
