Netrokona Nurse Severely Injured After Husband Allegedly Cuts Tendons in Hands and Feet

In Madan upazila of Netrakona, a 27-year-old nurse, Marufa Akter, was critically injured after her husband allegedly severed the tendons in her hands and feet during a domestic assault on Thursday morning. The incident took place at their rented residence on Barivadera Road in the municipal area. Police have detained the accused, Ariful Islam (35), in connection with the attack.

Marufa Akter, a Senior Staff Nurse at the Madan Upazila Health Complex, had been living at the residence with her husband and their seven-year-old daughter. Ariful Islam, originally from Ghatail upazila in Tangail, is employed at a private hospital in Mymensingh. According to police and local sources, the couple had been experiencing ongoing marital conflict for several months prior to the incident.

Following the assault, local residents rescued Marufa and took her to the Madan Upazila Health Complex. She was later referred to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment. Health officials confirmed that she sustained multiple injuries across her body, including severe damage to the tendons in both her hands and feet.

Before being taken into custody, the accused told journalists that escalating conflict and anger led to the attack and acknowledged wrongdoing. Police confirmed that he is currently in custody, and further legal action will proceed based on a formal complaint filed by the survivor or her family.
