Eleven years after the killing of Anjali Rani Devi, a senior faculty member at Chattogram Nursing College, the case remains unresolved, with no identified perpetrators or established motive. She was attacked on January 10, 2015, in the Chawkbazar area while on her way to work, in a daylight killing carried out in a public setting.

Investigators state that four youths carried out the attack using sharp weapons, believed to be ramdas, which were concealed in schoolbags. After the killing, the attackers reportedly placed the weapons back into their bags and fled on foot. Police sources have indicated that no belongings were taken from the victim, suggesting a premeditated killing rather than robbery.

The investigation has passed through multiple agencies, including the local police station, Detective Branch (DB), Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI), and Anti-Terrorism Unit (ATU). Several individuals were detained or shown as arrested, with the last recorded arrest in 2018. However, interrogations did not produce actionable leads, and no new suspects have been identified in more than seven years.

The case has been listed for hearing over 180 times without submission of an investigation report. Officials currently assigned to the case have stated that there has been no meaningful progress. The prolonged lack of resolution has left the victim’s family without answers, with relatives stating they have lost hope of justice after years of stalled proceedings.
