A 15-year-old SSC examinee was seriously injured in Mathbaria Upazila of Pirojpur after being attacked with a hammer during a family dispute, leaving her unable to sit for her ongoing exams. The incident took place on Tuesday afternoon in Shakharikathi village under Tushkhali Union.

The victim, Bithi Akter, a student of Tushkhali Tofel Akon Secondary School, was reportedly caught in an escalating conflict between her father, Badal Howlader, and neighboring relatives over a long-standing land boundary dispute. According to family members and local sources, tensions intensified over an argument related to kitchen smoke between the households, which led to a physical altercation.

During the confrontation, Bithi approached the scene to understand what was happening. At that point, Nazrul Islam (33), one of the accused, allegedly attacked her with a hammer, fracturing her right arm. Another individual, Rahat (18), was also named in connection with the dispute.

Bithi was first taken to Mathbaria Upazila Health Complex and later transferred to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital in Barishal for advanced treatment. Speaking from the hospital, she said she had hoped to sit for her SSC exams but can no longer do so due to the injury, noting that the attack specifically targeted her writing arm.

Following the incident, the accused individuals reportedly went into hiding. As of Wednesday noon, no formal complaint had been filed with the police. The Officer-in-Charge of Mathbaria Police Station stated that legal action will be taken once a written complaint is received. The victim’s family has demanded a fair investigation and accountability for those responsible.
